Spring 2 Overview

The pupils in Class 6, on the whole, are developing into well-motivated, hardworking students. They are expected to exhibit the highest possible standards of behaviour and schoolwork. We will continue to encourage your children to develop personal organisational skills, self-discipline and a greater degree of independence.

In R.E. our topic is 'Jesus, the Messiah’. Children will continue to prepare their own collective worship as well as saying the more formal prayers. We will be celebrating Lent and Easter with appropriate liturgies, hymns and drama.

In English, the children will learn about discussion and debate. This will be done orally as well as in writing. Following this, the children will study classic fiction. We will also continue to read our class novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and use this to develop comprehension skills.

Our maths topics will be algebra; converting units of measure; perimeter, area and volume; and ratio.

In science, the children will learn about light. They will participate in experiments and draw conclusions from their findings.

In computing, the children will continue to use the program 'Scratch' to develop their coding skills. They will manipulate script to program a sprite and eventually create their own game.

In geography, the children will continue to broaden their knowledge of North America.

In history, the children will revisit and broaden their understanding of World War Two.

In art. the children will focus on Picasso's cubism style of painting.

During P.E. lessons we will be focusing on cricket and net&wall tennis. As the weather improves we will be using the outdoor area more so the children are encouraged to wear leggings or plain tracksuit bottoms.

In Latin, we will explore more vocabulary and grow in confidence when speaking a different language. Towards the end of the term, the children will begin working on performing a Latin play.

I look forward to your support during this busy term.
