Spring 1 - 2025/2026
Timetable and Weekly Overview
RE
In RE, we will explore the early life and ministry of Jesus Christ, with a focus on his journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. We will learn who Jesus is, and explore the land of Galilee. The children will learn about the key events in Jesus' life, such as healing the sick, helping the poor and performing miracles.
KIDSAFE
This half term, we will take part in the Kidsafe programme with Mrs Ronson on Thursday afternoons. We will learn about how to keep ourselves safe online and with friends. We will identify who our trusted adults are, and what to do when we get 'yukky feelings'.
English
In English, we will read the story of The Enormous Turnip, and explore the different characters and the plot of the story. The children will complete many independent and scaffolded writing tasks, and produce their own short story at the end of the unit.
We will look at instructions for how to plant a bean, exploring bossy verbs and time words, and the children will produce a set of simple instructions that they can follow to plant their own bean.
Mathematics
In Maths, we will continue to learn the names and properties of both 2D and 3D shapes. We will also explore place value and addition and subtraction to 20. The children will learn how to partition numbers into tens and ones, and how to apply a range of different methods taught to answer one step number sentences.
Science
In Science, we will explore a range of different materials and discuss their properties. We will take part in practical activities, where we will use our senses to describe different materials. We will sort materials into different categories, for example whether they are natural or man-made.
Geography
In Geography, we will learn about the four countries in the United Kingdom - England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and their capital cities. We will explore and identify the similarities and differences between rural, urban and coastal areas.
Computing
In Computing, we will be introduced to early programming concepts, and explore individual commands on a computer program. We will identify what each floor robot command does, and use that knowledge to start predicting the outcome of programs. We will be introduced to the early stages of program design through the introduction of algorithms.
Music
In Music, we will be exploring the different sounds we hear in the world around us. We will explore music and sounds that we may hear at the seaside and in space. The children will learn and perform a song in assembly at the end of the unit.
PE
In P.E, we will explore different ways of kicking objects with accuracy and control, as well as learning how to receive a kick with control. We will learn how to choose skills effectively during games. In Gymnastics, we will learn a range of travels, rolls and jumps, and create a three step sequence that we will perform at the end of the unit.
Art and Design
In Art and Design, we will use different pens to carry out mark-making experiments. We will learn about Charles McGee, an American artist who made art work by making bold patterns made up of black and white lines and shapes. We will create our own piece of art inspired by McGee.
