Times Tables
In Year 2 the children should be secure with their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. They should also be able to confidently count in 3s. It is important that your child understands the significance of learning their tables and does not simply recite them like a poem.
In order to do this you need to set your child word problems where they need to use their knowledge of tables in real life situations.
Such as "If I bought 7 of these at 2 pence each how much would it cost me?" Or "if there are 30 sweets and 5 children how many sweets would they each get?"
They need to understand that division is the opposite of multiplication and that by using multiplication facts they can solve division problems including those which involve money and giving change.
