Spring 2
The pupils in Class 6, on the whole, are developing into well-motivated, hardworking students. They are expected to exhibit the highest possible standards of behaviour and schoolwork. We will continue to encourage your children to develop personal organisational skills, self-discipline and a greater degree of independence.
In R.E. our topic is 'Jesus, the Messiah’. Children will understand Jesus’ final journey to Jerusalem, his crucifixion and Resurrection and reflect on this. Children will continue to prepare their own ‘Celebration of the Word’ to share with their peers and younger children.
In English, the children will focus all their learning around one key text: Goodnight Mr Tom. The children will explore the book and use it as a stimulus for writing. The outcome will be a piece of writing in character.
Our maths topics will be fractions, decimals and percentages; perimeter, area and volume; and shape. The children will also be revising past topics to ensure that their knowledge is kept at the forefront of their minds.
In science, the children will learn about living things and their habitats. They will be able to distinguish between organisms and be able to classify plants.
In computing, the children will be introduced to spreadsheets. They will learn how to format a spreadsheet, and to understand and use formulas.
In history, the children will learn about World War Two. They will study the leaders during this time, learn about evacuation and the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign.
In art, the children will study Turner and will use watercolours to create a ‘Seascape’ in the style of his work.
During P.E. lessons the children will develop their skills in dance and invasion games (netball). The dance will take the theme ‘seaside’.
In Latin, we will explore more vocabulary and grow in confidence when speaking a different language. The children will learn about Latin verbs and be able to translate Latin stories.
In P.S.H.E. the children will explore emotional changes as well as changes in their bodies.
In music, the children will focus on jazz music. They will listen and appraise a variety of jazz pieces, play glockenspiels and use their improvisation skills.
I look forward to your support during this busy term.
