Autumn 2 2025/26 overview

English

Our English work will form a major part of the school day. The children will study British legends including Robin Hood, Excalibur and the legend of Gelert. The children will write their own legends based on the models we have read.

In grammar, we will focus on ED openers, relative clauses, modal verbs and adverbs. The children will also develop a wide variety of punctuation within their writing.

Later in the half term we will complete a unit of writing focusing on persuasion. The children will read a variety of texts and write their own persuasive reports.

As always, reading will be a huge focus. This half term we will read Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo which will support our legend unit. Please continue to support your child through promoting reading at least three times per week and record this in their books.

We will continue to complete daily spelling and handwriting activities. Spelling tests will take place on a Friday.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we will focus on multiplication division and fractions.

The children will develop written and mental methods for multiplication and division and apply their knowledge and understanding to a variety of problems. We will focus on the importance of mathematical dialogue ensuring that the children gain a deep understanding of the concepts being taught. It is important that the children can use reasoning in Mathematics when explaining their learning.

Mrs Donnelly will focus on how to calculate the area and perimeter of a variety of shapes.

Learning log

This half term I would like the children to research a UK landmark linked to a legend. They can share their findings as they choose. For example, this could be a model or a fact file in their learning logs. Please submit before the end of term.

A suggested list of landmarks is attached below.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries.

Many thanks
