Spring 1 2025/26 overview
English
We will complete three varied units during this half term.
Firstly, classic narrative poetry which will focus on the use of similes, metaphors and imagery. We will study a variety of poems including A Visit from St Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore. The children will perform poems and write their own.
Secondly, Stories with Historical Settings including Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Alice in Wonderland by CS Lewis and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We will read and analyse sections of these wonderful stories and complete our own writing based on what we read.
Finally we will complete a unit on Play Scripts. We will read and analyse a variety of Play Scripts and write our own based on our findings,
Please continue to read regularly with your child and sign their diaries three times per week.
Mathematics

We will continue to build on our learning in fractions and multiplication and division.
The children will identify, compare, order, add and subtract fractions. They will develop their ability to multiply and divide numbers using mental and written methods.
In addition, the children will complete shape lessons with Mrs Donnelly. This will include studying teh properties of shapes and learning how to measure and draw angles accurately.
Throughout lessons, the children will apply their learning in problem solving situations and be encouraged to explain their understanding.
R.E
Our new topic is Galilee to Jerusalem. The children will learn about the importance of the Beatitudes and how they help us to live meaningful lives. We will also study the Ten Commandments and their continued importance today We will learn about the Transfiguration and the importance of Moses and Elijah. We will also study the meaning and importance of the Our Father in detail.
We will continue to worship and pray daily and each week a group of children will lead a class Celebration of The Word

Science
The children will learn about life cycles in animals and plants. They will study a variety of animals and plants throughout this unit and learn key vocabulary and terms. There will be opportunities for children to work scientifically throughout the unit.

P.E

P.E ready days will continue to be on a Monday and Wednesday. We will complete our second unit of gymnastics on Wednesday afternoons. We will complete our dance unit on a Monday.
Art
The topic is called 'Journeys'. The children will use a variety of materials to create a collagraph printing plate. They will study the work of British contemporary artists Richard Long and Lubaina Himid.

Computing
In Computing lessons, the unit looks at how a flat-file database can be used to organise data in records. Pupils use tools within a database to order and answer questions about data. They create graphs and charts from their data to help solve problems. They use a real-life database to answer a question, and present their work to others.

History
We will continue to learn about the Romans this half term with a specific focus on Britain We will learn about how the Romans kept control with armies, fortresses, roads and walls. We will also study Leadership in Britannia and the development of literacy.
Music
The children will complete a unit of work allowing them to compose and arrange an original “Spooky Story” track in YuStudio using major and minor chords, melody, rhythm, basslines, and sound effects creating a specific atmosphere or mood.
Latin
The children will continue to follow the Minimus scheme with Mrs Donnelly.

Relationships and Health Education
We will continue to work through the 'Life to the Full scheme'
We will complete Spring 1 - UKS2 Module 2 unit sessions 1,2 and 3.
