The Tempest - Rehearsals

In Class 3 we are focusing on independence as we settle into a new class and a new stage of our journey at St John's. The children are expected to demonstrate independence in all areas of the curriculum and show resilience and determination when they find things challenging.

R.E.

In R.E. we will be studying the Epiphany and building up to Easter. Children will prepare their own collective worship in groups. They will learn how to locate specific Bible verses, ask questions and discuss these in group and whole class activities.

English

In English, we will be studying Aesop's FablesWe will be continuing to expand our range of sentence openers, use of adverbs and begin to use inverted commas to punctuate direct speech.

Spellings will continue to be sent home on Mondays and tested each following Monday. In class we will continue to look at spelling patterns and a wider range of suffixes and prefixes.

Mathematics

In Mathematics we will be focusing on multiplication and division in the early parts of the term before moving onto money, shape and finally fractions. The children will be expected to develop instant recall of all times tables in the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 times tables and to be able to apply this knowledge in multiplication and division questions involving two and three digit numbers.

Science

We will be exploring different types of organisms, how they grow and what they thrive upon. The children will develop an understanding of the difference between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

Geography

Our attention is now moving down to look at what lies beneath our feet. We will learn about the layers of the Earth and different phenomena caused by the heat and pressure below the Earth's crust. The children will learn about tectonic plates and how their movement can cause extreme geological happenings including earthquakes and volcanoes

P.E. and Games

Work planned for P.E. will include  dance choreographed and performed in conjunction with our work on Rocks, soils, earthquakes and volcanoes.
