AIMS

  • To provide children with a coherent knowledge and appreciation of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We aim to inspire the curiosity of pupils, so that they may seek to extend their own learning. Our delivery of the History curriculum is designed to give the children a secure overview of the chronology of human history and establish and sharpen the children’s skills of historical enquiry.

OBJECTIVES

  • To develop an understanding of the past through an awareness of how things have changed.
  • To understand why things in the past happened and what were the consequences of these events.
  • To be able to compare different time periods, especially with our own, with a particular focus on the experiences of people.
  • To develop an understanding of the differing experiences of people living at the same time in the past.
  • To develop an understanding of the fact that historical events are open to different interpretations and to give reasons for these differences.
  • To develop the ability to acquire information from both primary and secondary historical sources and to form judgements about their reliability.
  • To ensure that the knowledge and skills outlined above take place within the context of the Programmes of Study for National Curriculum History.
