Spring 2
The pupils in Class 6, on the whole, are developing into well-motivated, hardworking students. They are expected to exhibit the highest possible standards of behaviour and schoolwork. We will continue to encourage your children to develop personal organisational skills, self-discipline and a greater degree of independence.
In R.E. our topic is 'Jesus, the Messiah’. Children will understand Jesus’ final journey to Jerusalem, his crucifixion and Resurrection and reflect on this. Children will continue to prepare their own ‘Celebration of the Word’ to share with their peers and younger children.
In English, the children will focus all their learning around one key text: Macbeth. The children will explore the book and use it as a stimulus for writing. They will look at characterisation in narrative, writing a newspaper report and writing a persuasive speech.
Our maths topics will be fractions, decimals and percentages; perimeter, area and volume; and shape. The children will also be revising past topics to ensure that their knowledge is kept at the forefront of their minds.
In science, the children will learn about living things in the unit ‘further classification’. They will learn about invertebrates (in particular arthropods); plants and fungi; and bacteria.
In computing, the children will be introduced to spreadsheets. They will learn how to format a spreadsheet, and to understand and use formulas.
In history, the children will learn about the Viking Age. They will study who the Vikings were, with a particular focus on Viking as settlers and raiders in Britain.
In art, the children will study displacement and challenges. They will carry out research, analyse and design ideas to complete a creative outcome.
During P.E. lessons the children will develop their skills in dance and invasion games (tag rugby). The dance will take the theme ‘seaside’.
In Latin, we will explore more vocabulary and grow in confidence when speaking a different language. The children will learn about Latin verbs and be able to translate Latin stories.
In P.S.H.E. the children will explore emotional changes as well as changes in their bodies.
In music, the children will research composition foundations before creating and performing in class at the end of half term.
I look forward to your support during this busy term.
