Summer 1

For our pupils in Year 6 this is a very busy term. The children will be sitting their SATs (week beginning 12/05/25) and take will also start preparing for the end of year musical. We know our Year 6 pupils will continue to work hard and behave exceptionally.

In R.E. we will be following the topic ‘The Transforming Spirit’, which includes the Ascension and Pentecost. In addition to this, pupils will continue to prepare their own celebration of the word.

In English, we will continue to write for a range of audiences and purposes. The children will continue to use the Accelerated Reader programme to support their developing comprehension skills.

In maths, the children will continue their learning about shape. They will then move onto position and direction. After SATs, the children will work on a project which consolidates their learning.

In geography the children will become geographers. They will plan enquiries and carry out fieldwork. They will then collate, present and evaluate their findings.

Our science work will focus on biology: Functions of the human body. The children will learn about their blood, circulatory system and how to lead a healthy lifestyle with exercise and good nutrition.

P.E. units this term are tennis and cricket.

During P.S.H.E. sessions the children will learn how to build others up: this focuses on concepts of fairness, bullying, prejudice and discrimination, with reference to the protected characteristics as determined by the Equality Act. They will also learn about Trinity House and Catholic Social Teaching.

In computing lessons, the children will learn to program variables in games. They will first improve a game before designing their own using code.

Many thanks for your continued support during this very busy and important term.

Mrs C Moseley
